Boat ride, Beach, and afternoon class- Day 4!

Today was our second day of full activities, which for the girls began at a lovely 5:40 a.m. after our first night in the air bnb. We quickly got dressed and had cereal, granola bars, yogurt, fruit, the whole spread. Then, to Innoceana we went with our backpacks, water bottles, and swimsuits awaiting a wonderfully eventful day. We arrived at Innoceana, pick up the (cough cough not so punctual) boys, and from there we went to our boat, Most students took power naps, others drew or read, and some listened to music. We ended up at a park to see a locomotive and a rock that was an almost perfect sphere placed by indigenous people. After roughly 40 minutes, we were at the boat dock! All students were offered a cooling drink called agua fresca which is made with watermelon juice, which we all drank in about two minutes.

We then loaded onto the boat and began our tour of the Mangroves. It was a roughly 2 1/2 hour-long tour with many stops along the way so our tour guide, Julian would further explain and show the animals around us. Although we couldn't physically touch or hold the animals (sigh) we did get very close looks at many of them. about an hour and a half in, we all got fresh watermelon, pineapple, and vegan banana bread which were all SO good. We carried on looking at more animals and having them all explained to us in further detail. After the boat ride, we went back to the bus and began our drive to a buffet-style lunch spot which was delicious.

Then, we went back onto the bus and back to Inoceanna to change for the beach, which was roughly 20 minutes away. Once we arrived, we set our stuff down and played on the beach. Some students sat and enjoyed the weather, some walked along the beach, and others enjoyed the water. After an hour, we began our journey back to Innoceana for our final class of the day. (This class was about fish theory) Although we were all tired, we all wanted to listen and learn about what we'd be seeing during our activities tomorrow, the food chains of fish, how fish affect our ecosystems and so much more. Finally, we all made our way back to the air bnb where students swam, relaxed, and showered until it was time for dinner. Tacos, yum :)

Today was especially good because it was the first day we were well-rested and able to go go go. I learned mostly about different species of monkeys and the importance of respecting their habitat. We also learned about different fish species and how they affect our general way of living and how people study them, which I'm excited to use later on in our M Term!
